If Tatra was still around. We’d possibly still have a rear-engined saloon today
.

emissions would’ve probably killed it off, is my guess

In Russia, there are no emissions.

Tatra was just plain cool. Kind of a shame how VW came to be by Germany stealing their 30's design tech. I just loooove the 603/604. I think today it would probably have still died off, as that v8 would become water-cooled like Porsche. And it's funkiness wouldn't save it and it would go out like SAAB.

I agree, but still, I would have loved one extra car company to choose from, exactly like Saab. Who knows, Maybe Tatra would have been bought by VW or something, eventually transition to watercooled like Porsche did.

Tatra already had issues with that in the 90s, if they continued, they would eventually have had to do what Porsche did with the 996 and hastily switch to water cooling.

This sounds like an interesting Lemmons car build...a vannagan po we train in the back of a Passat wagon. Tatretro.

Wow, never seen that concept! That is gorgeous! Tatra is such an awesome company...would love to see one in the flesh someday...

Lets be honest here, Tatras large cars only stuck around for as long as they did (the last T700 was built 1999 after all) because of communism. Had Czechoslovakia remained a free economy Tatra would have continued the Tatraplan line instead of the big V8s, eventually resulting in a switch to front wheel drive and water cooling by the 1960s or 1970s at the latest. Tatra might even still be making cars today roughly in the same market segment as Audi or maybe Mercedes, but thoroughly conventional affairs.

In the hypothetical situation that Tatra would still be around, Czechoslovakia would still be around, the Iron Curtain would still be around, ergo, no emissions.
